Go deeper: the first secret rare

The set is officially 82 cards, but Dark Raichu is numbered 83/82, a card beyond the set list. That trick, a number higher than the total, became the standard way to mark the rarest card in a set, and it is still used today. Dark Raichu exists in 1st Edition and Unlimited.

Go deeper: 17 holos, including Trainers and Energy

The holos are 1 to 17, and three of them are not Pokemon at all: the Trainers Here Comes Team Rocket! and Rocket's Sneak Attack, and Rainbow Energy. That was new at the time.

Go deeper: what makes a Dark Pokemon

"Dark" is part of the card name, not just a mood. Dark Charizard evolves from Dark Charmeleon, not from the ordinary Charmeleon, so a Dark line has to be collected (and played) as its own family. Most Dark Pokemon have a little less HP than the normal versions but nastier attacks.
