About Pocket Moonstars
Updated 11 October 2026
In 30 secondsPocket Moonstars is an unofficial fan guide to Pokemon cards, made by a UK collector for beginners and for people coming back to the hobby. It explains, in plain English, what you are looking at, with every fact sourced. It never tells you what a card is worth or what to buy.
Why it exists
Like a lot of people, I collected Pokemon cards as a kid. We played the game and swapped cards at school; nobody graded anything. I still have my cards in storage in the UK. When I came back to the hobby as an adult, I found it confusing: dozens of sets, 1st Editions and Shadowless prints, Japanese cards, grading companies, fakes everywhere and a lot of hype. There was no simple, honest guide for someone starting out, so I built one.
How the facts are checked
- Card lists, numbers and pictures come from open card databases (TCGdex and pokemontcg.io), cross-checked against each other.
- Graded counts come from the grading companies' population reports (PSA, CGC and TAG), with the date we checked them.
- History, errors and special cards are checked against collector references such as Bulbapedia, Bill's Archive and Elite Fourum, and every page lists its sources at the bottom.
- The whole site has been fact-checked claim by claim, and is re-checked whenever pages change.
- Anyone can send a correction with proof, or ask a question privately.
What this site will never do
- Quote prices or tell you what to buy. Education only, never financial advice.
- Sell cards, or take money to recommend a shop or service.
- Pretend to be official. Pocket Moonstars is an unofficial fan page and is not connected to The Pokemon Company, Nintendo, Creatures or GAME FREAK.
