God packs

Updated 11 October 2026

In 30 secondsA god pack is a booster pack where (almost) every card is a top rare, instead of the usual mostly common cards. They are hidden in a few modern sets on purpose, mostly Japanese, and since 2023 some English sets too. They are very rare: collectors estimate roughly 1 in every 600 to 2,000 packs, depending on the set. You cannot tell a god pack from the outside.

God packs are full of cards like these, the "special illustration rares" (SAR) and "illustration rares" (IR), where the art covers the whole card.

What is inside one?

A normal modern pack has mostly common and uncommon cards, a reverse holo or two, and one rare slot. In a god pack, the common slots are replaced with full-art rares. Collectors use a few names:

Is it official?

No. "God pack" is a collectors' name, not a Pokemon term, and no official odds have ever been published for the paper card game. The odds you see online, including ours above, are estimates from people recording thousands of pack openings. Only Pokemon TCG Pocket, the phone game, publishes its rate.
